Antigua
2.04.2015
Tuesday we were at our first Caribbean Island, Antigua. We have been here before and one of things we
remembered and liked from before was an old church. It was a stone church with a great wood
interior. We went back up to and found
that it was being restored. The interior
was gutted with the exception of the pulpit, which was still standing. We spoke to a docent who told us that the wood
that was removed was pine and that pine only lasts 150 years. The pulpit, he said, was mahogany which will
last forever. He expected that the
restoration to take two more years.
After that we went to a bar to use their wifi. We had to buy beers to get the wifi password
and they were local beers and the bottles were quite small. The brand was Wadadli and was a really thin,
watery beer. The wifi was easy to log
onto with the iPhones, a bit slower with the chrome book and really slow with the
laptop. We were able to see some of our incoming emails, so that was good.
One of our favorite cruise staff members, from Serbia, is going to rejoin the ship soon so we bought
a welcome back card for her. Last year
when we saw Zoe, she said she was done after that contract, and that she was
going to apply for her USA green card when she got home. We will be interested to talk to her to see
what her current plans are.
Our evening was filled with a magician/comedian who was
quite good. We sat in about the fifth
row, to get a good view, and it was amazing how he did some of his magic. From there we went to another venue to play
the game Jeoparidized, something like Jeopardy. We earned $4,900 fake money, which didn't
beat the $7,700 winner, but it was alot of fun.
Wednesday we will be
in St Lucia.
