RV road trip 9.10.2018

OK, the euphoria of yesterday is still hanging on, but we are edging back to normal.  One thing we should mention is that John received a great gift yesterday.  Kristine gave him some of the ashes of Doonus, the donor.  A treasure.

Today was a nine hour day on the road.  John is doing all of the driving as Co did all highway driving for 16 years.  The RV drives nicely and smoothly.  We are in West Yellowstone, Montana, just outside of the park.

We have been noticing things on this trip that are worth mentioning.  We saw more hawks today than we have seen in the last few years.  More buzzards than in the last few decades.  We have seen some really different farm implements, machines.  They have a different size hay/straw bale than we have seen.  It is the shape of the old rectangular ones but much larger.  It looks to me 4’ x4’ x8’.  Maybe to fit in the back of a standard pickup?

The wifi is horribly slow now.  The park is full and maybe everyone is using at this time.  If this doesn’t post Monday night, we will try Tuesday morning.

Tomorrow will be our first full day in Yellowstone.  We have no definite plans.  We will look in one of our books and go somewhere near for the first day.  A bit of relaxing day.  John will get a fishing license, probably for the week.

We went through the Craters of the Moon National Park and stopped at the visitor center.  John was taking a photo of the elevation sign.  A lady came by and said “Oh, you’re taking a picture because you are huffing and puffing because of the altitude”.  John said, “No, I’m taking a photo because I am not huffing and puffing at this altitude!”.  She would not understand but most of you will.  Three years ago I would huff and puff at 3,000 feet.  Now we are 6,600’ and took a long walk with no problems.  Happy days are here again.

More tomorrow~John and Colleen

What an awesome day. Glad I wasn't there otherwise the town would've flooded. I am so happy for you and the donor family to have finally met.
