Another set of doctors came around, reviewed his stats and made
some medication adjustments. They were
quite pleased with his progress. He was
receiving one nebulized medication through his breathing tube, and they just
weaned him completely off that. This is
great news, because it's a step to get his breathing tube out. The nurse mentioned that John received some blood
products during the surgery. I asked
what all he received, and he got a total of 10 red blood units, 10 platelet
units, and 7 plasma units. So a total of 28 donors
saved his life! We are so grateful for
the 27 blood donors and 1 heart donor that were so generous. He is responding to questions by raising his
eyebrows, fluttering his eyes or squeezing a hand. His nurse Katelyn mentioned that she went to
Machu Picchu last year and he hearing that resulted in a response ... that
might be on his to do list once he's cleared!
How exciting to imagine the things he'll be able to do with his new
heart.
