Barcelona, day 4
Friday, October 11, 2013, Barcelona, Spain
Another day of sightseeing and walking. We went to two more churches, the Barcelona
Cathedral and the Basilica of Santa Maria de Mar. Both are very nice examples of Gothic architecture
and the Basilica had a violin ensemble playing while we were in it.
After the two churches we waited in line, in the rain, in an
alley, to get into the Picasso Museum.
It had many rooms, each dedicated to an era of his life. The first room was full of his work when he
was about 12 years old. He did standard
portraits at that time. He became the
Picasso we know, the weird Picasso, much later in life. A very interesting museum.
Barcelona is an old city with old buildings. We are staying in one. Creaking at night like someone is walking
about. Cracked paint and plaster on the
walls. Charming in its way. The area is full of very small shops. See today's picture of an auto repair shop.
It has room for one car inside and one poking out. And they are both very small cars!
We board the ship tomorrow and sail in the early
evening. Next stop is Toulon,
France. We will post later.
