Second day in Cabo
Hi all,
Monday was
our second day in our first port, Cabo San Lucas, playground of the rich. The amount of sleek, brilliantly shiny white,
yachts is astounding.
It is a
tender port, meaning that we are ferried ashore in the ship’s lifeboats. Yesterday we mentioned that the wind was such
that the tender service was halted early on Sunday. We also mentioned that there was a bit of a
miscommunication, or lack of communication, regarding the ship’s time. Well, today a passenger, for whatever reason,
was not in tune with ship time and missed the last tender back to the
ship. The ship did send a crew back for
that one lucky person. Lucky, because
often those that are not back in time get left and must make their own way to
the next post. NOT a fun event.
We went
ashore in the morning and walked several miles, just looking. Well, looking and being approached by vendors
selling all sorts of things. Hats,
silver jewelry, rubber iguanas, trips in glass bottomed boats. It is amazing how many make a living with
street hustles.
We didn’t go
with the intention of buying anything, but John saw a vendor with a board with
bracelets with dozens of names on them.
He asked if he had ‘Shalae’ and ‘Izzy’, the names of John’s heart
nieces. He didn’t but offered to make
them there on the spot. And he did. He asked for a certain sum and settled for
half the amount. We left and sat in the
shade for a bit and came back to him in time to watch him finish the second
one. Amazing, fingers flying, whipping
the thread around and around, changing colors as the pattern emerged. Well worth what we paid, more than we had
agreed upon.
Tuesday we
will be in Loreto, a much smaller and quieter town. Village really. It is another tender port, and we have a
mission there. We have been to Loreto
once before but did not find a Christmas tree ornament. We try to have one from each port we have
been to and then when we decorate the tree, we reminisce about the trips.
