San Francisco

Thursday we needed to be off the ship by 8:30 to go through immigration since we had been in Canada last port.  So we were considered to be entering the US from abroad.  Every passenger must leave and no one can get on until all have been processed.

In the past, we have needed to show our passports to immigration.  Not in this day and age.  Facial recognition.  Not sure how it works but the is a picture of each person on a screen and each person needs to center his face in that picture and then we were waved on.  Super easy and fast.  Do they have our picture in a file somewhere or do they look to see if we look like the picture of bad guys that they have in a file?  It bears investigation.

So we walked the Embarcadero all the way to Ghirardelli Square. And Pier 39, the shops pier.  Over 12,000 steps before noon.

We saw the self driving cars go by.  Lumpy cameras on the corners and on top.  I'll try to include a video.  Nope, no video.

After lunch we went back a bit into town to mail a couple of postcards.  Then Progressive Trivia at which we are not doing well.
John reports that beet and berry soup is pretty much cold beet soup with a slight sweet taste.  He wouldn't order it again but he wouldn't tell others not to try it.  Wishy-washy.
