April 13, 2021 update (Heart)
Hi Everyone,
This has
been an interesting week. John had his
fifth heartaversay on the 11th.
That was good. The transplant
seems like forever ago sometimes and like yesterday others. The heart works well; our eternal thanks go out
to Melanie and Kristine.
But…we were
both vaccinated but John did not get antibodies. He is part of a Johns Hopkins University
study specifically to find out if the vaccines work on people that take immunosuppressants. The study results after the first dose showed
that only 17% of solid organ recipients had any antibodies. So, one out of six. John was one of the five, one of the 83% that
did not get antibodies.
Today we
received the results from Johns Hopkins after John’s second dose and still
there are no antibodies. Johns Hopkins
had not yet published findings after second doses, but we have our personal
answer.
What all
this means is that we will need to stay in our small bubble until either John
somehow gets antibodies or the virus is eradicated.
Take care,
Colleen & John
