03.15.2020 Morning chat
Good morning all,
Colleen read an article last night relating the conditions
at some of the other places where passengers are quarantined. That is not the case for us. We are in a nice motel, in an ADA compliant
room on the first floor. We have two
beds, a table, a dresser, the usual motel things. It is clean.
The bathroom is large; it is made for wheelchairs. The shower is the size of a tub with a
minimal threshold to step over. There is
a seat in the shower. We are in a nice
place considering.
The meals are not prepared on the base. We are served in covered trays. Remember the old Swanson TV dinner trays? Aluminum divided into three
compartments. The main course is a pocket
that takes up half the tray and there are also two smaller pockets. The meals are delivered in a U-Haul truck by
a crew in hazmat gear.
Big changes this morning.
The meal does not include scrambled eggs for the first time. And they were delivered to our doors. Safer way to avoid close contact and maintain
social distancing.
Being under the conditions of no control over anything, we are
reverting to the Depression or Holocaust.
We know that there will be another meal, but we hoard bits of food. We have bags of chips, loose cookies, CLIF
bars, diner rolls, muffins, packets of mayo and packets of a variety of salad
dressing and an orange. We refuse apples
and pears because we can’t peel them and are worried that the virus could be on
the skin. Even if we are not hungry, we get in line and take our trays. We are not allowed to pick up the tray or the
drinks, anything. Hazmat people will put
it on our trays. If they put something
on a tray that we don’t want, they won’t take it back.
Here is a quote from a lovely niece. We are in “Exile for the good of the realm”. That is a great description of our situation. No complaints about it at all.
