06.06.2019 update from New York City
Friday, the ship arrived in New York City around 8 am, two
hours late due to the delay caused by the medical disembarkation on
Thursday. Our group was close to the
last to disembark since we did not have a plane to catch, nor an excursion to
go on. We cleared Customs and were in a
cab to our hotel by 11:30 and arrived at our hotel about 12:30. Cousin Jeanine
and her husband, Leroy, met us and we were out looking for a Kosher New York
deli soon after. We found a place, Ben’s,
that hit the spot for us. They had huge
pastrami sandwiches, which we split.
Then we walked to Times Square before heading back to the hotel for a
bit. We went to an Irish Pub for happy hour, then back to our hotel for a drink
and some wonderful conversation. The
hotel had a very unique “Happy Hour”. “Happy
Hour” consisted of a poet reading Haiku poetry in the bar. No happy hour menu at all. We cruised with Jeanine and Leroy in 2014 when
we did the fall colors cruise from New York City to Quebec and had a great time. They haven’t cruised Alaska yet, so we’re
talking about that for next year, 2020.
We fly out of JFK airport and expect to land in Seattle about
8:30pm, Seattle time. That will be 11:30pm
to us, late but we will be happy to be home.
