RV road trip 9.22.2018 Home!

We are home.  Actually, we cut the trip short and came home on Wednesday.  We saw what we wanted in Yellowstone and Grand Teton and had the great visit with John’s donor family.  That was beautiful, more that we could have ever imagined.  Wonderful, welcoming mom, sister and family.

 

The motor home had a problem from the time we left supplying heated water.  The most we could get was alternating cold and warm, 30 seconds at a time.  Then on the last Monday, the water heater quit completely.  That wasn’t fun so we drove to Ellensburg where John fished a day on the Yakima River with JP.  Another so-so day on the water.

But, we saw Mammoth Hot Springs and that was amazing.  Old Faithful was a bit underwhelming; we thought it would be much larger, much higher.  And, we walked up and it spouted and so there wasn’t any anticipation.  Still it is a marvel that it is so on time. 

The topography is so varied and so stunning.  Deep canyons and high mountains.  Bison and elk and deer.  Fewer birds than expected.  We saw so many in Idaho on the way, and so few in Yellowstone. 

We went in the “slow” season, after school was back in session, and there were many, many cars and RVs.  Each day as we entered the park there was a 30-60 minute slowdown as tourists would stop on the road (two lane, no shoulder) and gawk at the bison and elk and to photograph them.

We are happy we went, but so happy to be home.  Next up is a cruise to Mexico mid December.
