09.30.2016 update

Home at last!  It was a busy day.  Training for the home infusion system began at 7:00am and then at 7:35, transport picked me up and wheeled me down to the lab where they installed a tunnel line, similar to a picc line.  A decision was made to avoid the picc line in the arms because of the blood clots that formed last time I had a picc line.  It comes out of the chest near the right armpit.  It had problems sealing, filling the bandage with blood.  The bandage was changed early this afternoon and then again this evening.  Hopefully that issue is over.

After the tunnel line install, I was wheeled to the eye clinic for an examination of the retina.  The virus can cause what is called CMV retinitis and in extreme cases cause blindness.  It didn't though. That I don't need or want!  Vision fuzziness was actually the first indicator of the virus, but it was not on the list of things to watch for. 

After getting back to the room at 11am, it was time for the second training for the infusion pump.  Then the cardiologist team did their rounds followed by a pharmacist.  Lunch was squeezed in somehow.  After all that, the anti-viral infusion was started and it takes 60 minutes.  That was close to the end.  All that was left was to remove the old IV line in my arm.  Once it was out, we just had to sign hospital release forms and left.  We were able to beat the traffic for the UW/Stanford football game.  We'd been told to be out of there by 2pm or we would be stuck until about 6pm.  The traffic was not as bad a feared and we were home by 3:30. 

We are both so tired but happy to be home.
