Rome

This morning we cruised into the Roman port of Civitavecchia. Off the ship to a shuttle bus to the port
entrance, 10 minute walk to the train station and then into Rome. Off near St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican,
then across the river to Campo de' Fiori.
Short rest, then to Piazza Navona and on to the Pantheon a marvelous building
which is one of our favorites. It is difficult
to take photos inside that look anything like the real thing. Really too bad.
Then we walked to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish
Steps. Another walk to the Termini train
station. We had bought tickets from a
machine in the morning with no difficulty.
Here young Gypsies try to take it upon themselves to help. We said no several times and explained that
we had done it before with no problems.
They wouldn't take 'no' for an answer.
It actually took longer with their help than it did without. Then, they wanted to be paid! Aggravating to say the least.
Anyway, we made it onto the train and back to the ship. Tomorrow is our first of two visits to Naples
and hopefully a drive/ride down the Amalfi coast assuming we can negotiate a
reasonable price at the dock. If not, we
have a backup plan. We will let you know
how it turns out.
