Hawaii cruise 10/03/2023
We are on a
cruise to Hawaii, from Seattle to Seattle.
It is very similar to the covid cruise we were on in 2020, but round
trip from Seattle instead of San Francisco.
We had a
lost luggage scare on Saturday, boarding day.
Our big suitcase didn’t show with the other and it was two hours after sail
away before it appeared. Sock, undies,
shirts, all that sort were in it, and we would have had to wait five days to
Hawaii to shop. Whew!
We are
taking great care of ourselves. We got
the flu, RSV and Covid vaccines before leaving.
We wear masks, of course. We are
using Enovid, a nasal spray that kills viruses in the nose before they get to
the lungs. We have two hepa machines,
one that does the whole room and one that is portable and rechargeable that we
take with us to meals, shows and trivia.
We won at trivia twice, in large part to our teammates. They are a couple from Victoria, BC that
cruise a lot. We have met them before,
so that was nice to see them again.
The
entertainment has been hit or miss. We
walked out of the first night show but enjoyed the second. That is a nice thing, when you sit in the
back row.
Dining is
great. We have a very good waiter and an
improving assistant waiter. The cruise
line now has dining room managers, not the head waiters of the past. The manager does the same job, just different
title. He brings John the menus for the
next day so they can prepare his meals ‘no salt’. There is always some sodium, but it gives us
as much control as is available to us.
The ship
turned their clocks back one-hour last night, but the computers and phone have
not done so yet. It is mental juggling
to be on time since we can’t trust our clocks. We’ll gain another hour tomorrow
night and the third, just before we arrive to our first Hawaiian port on
Friday. Hopefully we will pass under a
correcting satellite soon.
We just
found out that we will be at the ‘Most Travelled Passenger’ luncheon. There are 20 couples invited and the cut off
this cruise is 486 days. Our trivia
mates are number one with over 1,500 days at sea. They spend about 6 months at sea,
cruising. He is retired Canadian Naval
and she was a scientist.
