9.18.2017 update from Juneau

We boarded the Ruby Princess in Seattle on Saturday for a quick 7 day trip to Alaska.  Embarkation was really smooth, we were in our room by noon.  Since the emergency drill is mandatory, we decided to go to the one for people who boarded late.  Rather than being in a room of hundreds, we were in a room of seven.

We unpacked and wandered around the ship.  This is actually our 5th on the Ruby but there have been small changes.  There is a new dining area for those in suites.  It is also our sixth cruise to Alaska.

Our stateroom is quite far forward, farther than we have ever been before.  We are so far forward that the ship's wi-fi does not reach us.  We are about four staterooms away, so it is not as convenient.  We need to go to public areas or the internet cafe to transmit.  We docked in Juneau late Monday morning so  had cell service, and we missed cell service.

Our dinner table mates are a good group.  There is a couple from New Mexico and another from Mississippi.  The couple from New Mexico are a retired radiologist and a marketing manager for the Albuquerque newspaper.   The man from Mississippi runs an IT department for the county gaming department.  I thought hunting and fishing, but no, he is over the gambling casinos.  She works in compliance for the same division.

Sunday was a day at sea.  We stayed busy playing trivia, though not well, and went to the theater show.  It was an Elton John tribute.  The musician was good but it was so loud that many, including us, left early.  Monday we were in Juneau.  It was a bit foggy, so we couldn't Russia.  We just walked around the town for a couple of hours, ducking into shops.

On Monday it was raining pretty hard in Juneau when we arrived, so we stayed on the ship until early afternoon when it was just drizzling.  We walked around town for a couple of hours, then returned after the rain stopped.

Tomorrow it is Skagway.
