From Buenos Aires
2.21.2015
Today we are in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Great architecture. Wide streets.
(Dog poop on the streets and sidewalks though.) A great pedestrian shopping road, closed to
cars. Lots of US companies. McDonalds, Burger King, etc. There are some stunning churches, we always
like those.
Yesterday we had warnings from the port speaker as well as a
letter from the captain warning us of several scams ashore. One was about cabs shortchanging. One was about money changers on the street
and there were lots of those, but everyone took US dollars so that wasn't a
problem.
One warning was to beware of people on the street offering
to wipe stuff off our clothes. That they
would spray something on and offer to clean it up. Happened to us outside of a church. Both of our shirts have streaks of white on
them, but not chunky like bird droppings.
We refused his offer to help, but the stuff doesn't come off
easily. Dries hard like a paint. He tried to convince us that birds pooped on
us, we believed him at first, but now question it. It is like cement, it doesn't come off
easily. Co has it in her hair, on her
hat, backpack and shirt. John has it on
his shirt and shorts.
The weather is getting noticeably cooler the further south
we go. It has been a very comfortable
last three days in the 70's, rather than the 90's to 100's we had in
Brazil. We did walk 6.5 miles
today. Juan is muy cansado. Very tired.
