Cozumel

Today is our last day at sea. In the morning we will be back in Fort Lauderdale and then on to home.


Friday, yesterday, we were in Cozumel and took an excursion around the island. The land is very flat and the trees are very short, the shortness likely due to hurricanes. The island is 33 miles long and 9 miles wide, so there really isn’t much to see. We went to what might be called a Mexican Cultural Center that had many small scale replicas of Mayan and Aztec temples. We had no idea that there were so many! Our guide was of Mayan stock and gave great historical information, including the scoop on the Mayan calendar that is said to end in 2012. Apparently, the Mayans had a lunar calendar and a solar calendar and they run out and then start over. In 2012, both run out and start over in the same year, but the Mayans do not predict the end of the world. So, breathe easy!

Next we went to a tequila factory and learned all about the differences between good and bad tequila. No matter how many shooters one has, tequila still tastes ratty. (We had small sips, not shooters, but the theory should hold.)

Saturday, John did the Zip Line, high above the Boardwalk, 9 floors below. Colleen braved the merry-go-round.

The Captain has two motorcycles on board, a bright yellow Harley with matching sidecar (to carry his golf clubs while in port), and a 250cc “chopper” that is quite loud and sounds like a Harley idling, He drives it through the ship, tooting the horn as necessary, but it’s so loud that we all know when he is enroute.
