Lost opportunity

We were scheduled to visit St Peter Port on Guernsey Island today, but a combination of strong tides and winds made it impossible for the ship to maintain position. This port does not have a pier so we would have needed to go ashore on tenders and it was unsafe. So…St Peter Port was cancelled. We had planned to call Jennifer today to wish her well on her 5th annual 3-Day 60 mile walk for breast cancer in memory of her Aunt Katherine. Good luck, Jen, hope to call you tomorrow!
Instead of a report on the island, we will fill you with useless observations and trivia.
The Internet speed this trip is the fastest ever on a ship we’ve been on, and there is wifi in our cabin, so we don’t have to go to the Internet Café . Very Nice.
Highways in Europe have three posted limits; cars, trucks and minimum. Nice.
Highways seem to have no police, but roadside assistance vans seem to appear as necessary. Nice.
Cars on the highway observe the rule regarding the left lane for passing only. Nice.
Traffic lights in parts of Europe add a yellow light to the red just before the light goes green. Nice.
Gas prices in Portugal are $6.90 per gallon for regular, after conversion. Stop whining, we will.
Overhead highway signs in Portugal are tilted a few degrees toward the driver. No idea why.
Portugal gets 26% of its electricity from the wind. They’re way ahead of us.
There are lots of Brits on this ship. It is a seven day cruise for them, starting and ending in Southampton. Brits seem to smoke a lot. They eat beans and tomatoes for breakfast and lots of sausage and bacon. The comedy acts are hard to follow for two reasons; accents and joke content. We just don’t understand a lot of it. One night the comedian focused on a 1970’s British Radio show, most in the audience got it, we didn’t. Brits like elevators, they get on ups if they want to go down and downs if they want to go up. They just want to be inside?
On this trip, we changed our clocks forward or backward in one hour increments four times. We will likely go forward before Norway and then back an hour at a time until Florida.
Tomorrow we are in Southampton.

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm bummed you didn't go to Guernsey, I was looking forward to hearing about it after reading the book. I appreciate the trivia though :)
