Heading home
Yesterday, Thursday, we were in Cabo San Lucas, at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula. We arrived at 7am and left at 2pm, the shortest shore time of the trip. Cabo doesn’t have large piers, so the cruise ships anchor and the passengers are tendered into the harbor. The Sapphire Princess used its lifeboats as well as boats from Cabo as tenders and waiting was minimal. Once in town, Colleen, Jen and John did a bit of shop wandering, really a bit bored with shopping since all the ports have had similar items. We did find a Christmas ornament and bought a whistle shaped like a turtle from a little girl vendor.
At dinner, we found that the others had rented jet skis and had another fantastic day. Katherine and Nancy are first time cruisers and don’t want to leave this cruise! The last formal night (suits and tuxedos) of a cruise often has lobster and prawns and Baked Alaska for dessert. Yup, five of the six at our table had just that. The ship makes a big deal on this night, introducing the chefs, maître d’ and headwaiters. The waiters and junior waiters’ parade around the dining room with the lights turned out and candles lit atop the frozen dessert. It’s quite a scene, with diners cheering, waving napkins overhead and taking flash pictures.
Friday, the last day of the cruise was the only rough day of the trip. The ship is rocking and rolling, side to side and for to aft. There are a quite a few commenting on it and we’re sure some are hiding in bed with the light outs, praying. Only one in our group is having difficulty. And she has been wearing a patch that supposedly prevents seasickness.
Traveling always reminds us of the frailty of AOL. It just doesn’t work well away from home. We usually use our YAHOO address when traveling, but since we didn’t tell everyone about it for this trip; we have been trying to check AOL as well. AOL takes much longer to connect than YAHOO, or the online banking, or GOOGLE when stationary in port, but doesn’t connect at all in rough seas. Possibly, probably due to the connection being through the ships satellite system. That still doesn’t explain YAHOO being so much faster and more reliable.
Three made it to dinner, three didn’t. One seasick and two just plain too tired to lift another fork! All in all, we all had a great time, and NO trips to the medical center! Now we pack up, get a good night’s sleep and fly home tomorrow. Puerto Vallarta and Cabo are on Mountain Time and so we set our clocks ahead early in the trip. Tonight we get to set the clocks back, so will get an extra hour of sleep. That’s a very nice bonus! Much needed by most of us. Colleen and Norma are the only ones not suffering from less sleep than needed. Two tough women!!
If we have any adventures on the way home, we will blog again once home. If travel is boring, we will make another entry after seeing the cardiologist and the transplant surgeon at the UW Wednesday.
