4.02.2016 update
We missed a heart last night. The call came and we didn't hear the phone
the first time at 12:20 am. The second and
third times there was no one on the line.
On the fourth call John could barely hear someone asking for him. He said he couldn't hear so she did something
to her phone and then she came through clearly.
Kathy from the UWMC heart transplant team said to bring all eight LVAD
batteries and check into the ER entrance at UWMC to get ready for a morning
transplant. We cried. We dressed and then she called back and told
us that so much time had elapsed since they first tried calling (roughly 20
minutes) that the Doctor offered the heart to the second in line.
The Doctor called in the morning to ask what went wrong so
it wouldn't happen again. We since have
moved the phone from the Master bath to the nightstand and changed the order in
which they would call. They had called
both cells before the house phone. Our cell
phones live in the office which is in the opposite end of the house.
We can say that it wasn't meant to be. We have been waiting almost seven years and
are really compliant about what we are
told. But we didn't hear the phone. We are feeling a huge loss now and are
grieving.
