03.29.16 update
This will be the promised update around the first of each
month. There is a bit of new info to
share. As of today, Tuesday, John is off
of the PICC line antibiotic infusions.
He will now take oral antibiotics until transplant since the
bacteria is in the driveline (made of
felt where it goes through the abdomen) and cannot be totally eradicated. This is the one infection that will not stop
a transplant. The reason is that when a
new heart is implanted, the LVAD and driveline will be removed and thus the
infection removed.
It is so nice to be back to a normal schedule, one that we
have had since the LVAD implant. No more
getting up at 6am for an infusion. No
more staying up until 10pm (9 is John's normal bedtime) for an infusion. Sleep will be back to normal for both of us. We are very much looking forward to it.
He is now on minocycline, so needs to be careful in the
sun. Today was the most beautiful day,
the sun was shining. Since he won't get
the first dose until bed time tonight, he took advantage to do the last of the
back yard projects. Mick and his
daughter, Lexi came over and brought in 2.5 yards of bark. Now it looks complete, other than some
additional plantings that will be done later.
