Honolulu 9/22-23/26

Tuesday we docked in Honolulu at an ancient pier.  Or a pier that seems ancient to us.  Since we arrived a day early due to Kauai being cancelled, we suspect that it was a last minute accomodation.

We have been going to many trivia games in the Explorers Lounge and have fared poorly. Until Tuesday when we won the morning trivia. We won a Princess Cruise swag bag that had several items in it. It had the one item we wanted, a Princess eyeglasses case. If case makes you think of a hard shell that snaps shut, that's not what we got. It was a blue cloth bag with a draw string. Princess logoed of course!

After trivia, we wanted to get off the ship to find a drug store for some cold remedies. GPS, both Apple and Google, showed a CVS pharmacy 0.6 miles away.  That CVS was permanetly closed, out of business by the time we walked there. We looked again and chose a Long's Drug that was 0.8 miles away.  So a total walk of 1.40 miles. Or so you would think. No matter how far we walked, the GPS would say 0.4 miles to go. We finally got there, overheated and tired. We made our purchases then called an Uber to ride home.  The Uber only drove 0.9 miles! When were back onboard we checked our Fitbits and found we had walked 3.0 miles! How does that work?  John is feeling much better with just a residual cough at this time.

While wandering, we hid another of John's rocks, which we took a photo of but cannot post it in the blog.  We had no trouble posting the first rock photo, but have no success posting since. Google doesn't have any ideas that work. Ships use a satellite system and that is probably the reason.  We will continue to try posting pictures.

Our plan for Wednesday was to take a Hop On Hop Off trolley around the Honolulu area. Due to John's cold we decided to forgo that plan.  They have four lines and we could have switched for one to another. But, we opted to take the shuttle to the big Ala Moana mall on a Hilo Hattie bus.  We spend a whole half hour or so at the mall!  Big shoppers. We did find a Christmas tree ornament for our collection. We heard others talk about the Hop On Hop Off, and heard that there were very long lines to hop back on.  We were glad we changed our plans

After dinner, we saw a local hula show that came to the ships theater. The group was in competition two weeks ago and won awards in 9 of the ten events they entered.  The kids especially were fun to watch, very talented.  Itt's nice to see the children continue the tradition of learning Hula.

That's it for tonight.  We'll be at Kona on the big Island Thursday.

Aloha,

Colleen and John
