San Francisco
We are onboard the Star Princess with niece Jennica and her husband Chris. This is gonna be fun!
We flew from Seattle to San Francisco, Monday April 2nd, and had a pleasant flight with no difficulties. No food, not even nuts or pretzels. Ah, how times have changed. We took Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) from the airport to the hotel. Nice, fast and dirty. The car we were in had bird poop on the seats and floors. The elevators in the station had signs ordering that there be no urinating or defecating in the car. Wow, they need to post signs for that?
The hotel was nice, very close to the cruise terminal and Fisherman’s Wharf. We walked over five miles Monday and several more Tuesday. The weather is cloudy, breezy, but warm enough. It is not rainy and chilly like Seattle has been.
Princess Cruise is trying a new system of boarding the ship. They are boarding by floors and our floor was scheduled to board at 2:45PM, not what we are used to and not really acceptable. So, Colleen and John walked to the pier in the morning and Co chatted up an employee named Barbara who told us to show up about 11:30 and she would take our bags and get us on an hour later. We have so much luggage between the four of us that we called for a van sized taxi and even with it, only two of us rode to the pier. Chris and John walked. When they arrived, Co and Jennica had been told by the longshoreman who took the bags that we could just head in. So we did. We got priority boarding passes and waltzed right on in. Sweet.
We had a bite to eat, Co gave a tour of the ship and when we got back. Most of our bags were in the room. We were settled in by 2:30, earlier than we were even scheduled to start the boarding process.
More soon,
John & Colleen
