Homeward bound

Each of these ships has a ‘godmother’, a woman who is somehow connected to the ship. This particular ship, the Royal Princess, has a godmother that actually lives on board. She has over 4,000 nights spent on Princess Ships and has lives in this one since it was named last year. Maybe it’s cheaper to live here than to live in a nursing home?

Friday was our last at sea day and we just loafed about until 7:55pm. Most of the ship was out on deck, watching for the shuttle launch, which went off right on time. We were about 85 kilometers away, just south of the Cape. We had a clear view of the launch from the ground until it went behind some low clouds. All we could see was a bright orange glow, moving slowly upward. Once it passed the low clouds, we saw the orange glow for a short while and then we could see the separation of the shuttle from the booster rockets. From then on, we saw what looked like a little a little star rising in an arc. It was very cool!

We are writing this from the Ft Lauderdale airport, waiting for our flight home. It's been a nice trip, but it’ll be nice once we are there and get used to being home. This should be the end of the blog until we have reason to use it again. Our next planned trip is January 31st.
